Your estate plan involves some of your most personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we keep it safe.

Who we are
This website, wills.mariottilaw.ca, is operated by SimplyClose Law Professional Corporation, operating as Mariotti Law Group(“we,” “us,” or “the firm”), a law firm regulated by the Law Society of Ontario. We are responsible for the personal information we collect through this site. This policy is written to align with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to prepare your documents and serve you properly:
- Account details. Your name and email address, used to create and secure your account through our authentication provider.
- Questionnaire responses. Information about your family, assets, beneficiaries, executors, attorneys, and wishes that you enter to prepare your will and powers of attorney.
- Payment information. Payments are processed by our payment provider, Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment and limited billing details. We do not store your full card number.
- Communications. Messages, emails, and notes exchanged with our office about your file.
- Technical information. Basic usage and device data, and a small number of cookies needed to keep you signed in and to credit a referral if you arrived through one.
How we use your information
- To prepare your will and powers of attorney and have them reviewed by a licensed Ontario lawyer.
- To contact you about your file, schedule your in-person signing, and answer your questions.
- To process your payment and issue receipts.
- To store your signed documents securely and release them to your executor when the time comes.
- To meet our professional, regulatory, and legal record-keeping obligations.
Confidentiality and privilege
Information you provide in the course of obtaining legal services from us may be protected by solicitor-client privilege and is treated as confidential in accordance with the rules of the Law Society of Ontario. We do not disclose it except as described in this policy or as required or permitted by law.
When we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers. We use trusted providers to run the service, including authentication, database hosting, payment processing, secure document storage, and email delivery. They may process your information only on our instructions and under confidentiality obligations.
- Legal requirements. Where we are required or permitted to disclose information by law, court order, or the rules of our regulator.
- With your direction. For example, sharing documents with a partner on a couple plan, or with a person you authorize.
Storage and security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access. Your data is stored with reputable providers using industry-standard security. Signed original documents are kept in secure storage at our Windsor office.
How long we keep it
We retain your information for as long as needed to provide our services and to meet the professional and legal obligations that apply to law firms in Ontario, including file-retention requirements. When information is no longer required, we take steps to securely delete or de-identify it.
Your choices and rights
Subject to legal and professional limits, you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask questions about how it is handled. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to operate the service: a session cookie to keep you signed in, and a referral cookie that records a referral code for up to 30 days if you arrive through a referral link. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Children
Our services are intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
